What is an elective ultrasound?

An elective ultrasound is a keepsake ultrasound to allow family and friends to view and bond with their baby before he/she is born.

Does this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor’s office?

Elective ultrasound does not take the place of the ultrasounds you have at your doctor’s office. The ultrasound performed at your doctor’s office is done to ensure the well being and genetic soundness of your baby and is a very important part of your care during pregnancy. Baby Bump Studio does not provide medical services, we provide an elective ultrasound and an opportunity for you and your family to "meet" and bond with your baby. This should never replace your doctor visits.

What is the difference between 2D Ultrasounds, 3D Ultrasounds, and 4D Ultrasounds?

Despite the difference in their names, 3D and 4D ultrasounds both produce 3D images of your baby. The primary difference between the two techniques is that 3D ultrasounds give you a three dimensional picture of your baby, while 4D ultrasounds offer you the opportunity to view your baby in 3D and in real time. Compared to the traditional ultrasound that we're all familiar with, these new ultrasound methods are not really a new technology, but rather a re-application of the same 2D ultrasounds.

Does my doctor offer 3D/4D Ultrasounds?

Some doctors do have the technology to offer 3D/4D Ultrasounds and a few of them do. Generally doctors allow a limited amount of time for you to enjoy the bonding experience. Many clients we work with have felt rushed due to the nature of the medical profession scheduling appointments every fifteen minutes. To have a memorable experience that family and friends can enjoy, Baby Bump Studio provides the opportunity to bond with your new family member in an atmosphere that is comfortable and relaxed.

What are the advantages to 3D/4D Ultrasounds other than the "wow" factor?

The bonding experience is the advantage of having a 3D/4D ultrasound. Having a 3D/4D ultrasound has been shown to enhance the mother’s ability to bond with her baby. Further, fathers and other family members have been shown to form a greater bond with the baby during pregnancy.

Can the gender of a baby really be determined at 14 weeks?

It most certainly can and with over 99% accuracy! This does not always mean that your little of bundle of joy will be in a position or a mood to guarantee gender determination. If we are unable to determine the baby’s gender due to positioning, we allow you to come back for free!

Is it safe to have an ultrasound done?

When it comes to ultrasounds, the FDA regulates the frequency and intensity of the ultrasound machines to ensure that your baby will not be harmed. Even if a machine went rogue (they don't) and started producing ultrasonic waves that were too intense for your baby, a fail-safe mechanism is included in each ultrasound unit which shuts the machine down or terminates the ultrasonic output in the event that the ultrasonic waves do not meet FDA regulations.

Do I have to have an appointment?

Our schedule is open by appointment only so it is recommended that you do schedule an appointment. If there is time available in between appointments we would love to fit you in! Just give us a call to ensure that time is available.

How long does the ultrasound last?

The length of your ultrasound is dependent on the package that you select, it can run anywhere from 5-20 minutes. How many weeks do I have to be to have an ultrasound done? You can come in for an ultrasound any time from 6 weeks and on. Between 6-13 weeks you can see your baby and listen to their heartbeat. We can also provide you with fetal age and EDD. 14 weeks is when we can determine gender, if you cannot wait for your 20-24 week appointment with your doctor you can schedule with us and we can tell you if your baby is a boy or a girl earlier. 25 weeks to birth is when you can get really detailed 3D/4D ultrasound images and know what your baby will look like. Some information warns against have 3D/4D done past a certain time in your pregnancy but we have found that exceptional images can be obtained at any time throughout your pregnancy.

Can I bring family and/or friends?

Bring as many people as you like, the more the merrier! This is an amazing experience for you to share will all your friends and family.

What should I do before my 3D/4D ultrasound to get the best possible view?

The most important thing to do to help ensure great images is to drink LOTS OF WATER! Try to really hydrate 2-3 days before your session, this helps to increase the fluid level in the uterus allowing for better images.

Does insurance cover my ultrasound?

Insurance will NOT cover your elective ultrasound. Insurance is used for medical services and the ultrasound we provide is NOT a medical ultrasound. We accept cash and any form of Credit/Debit card except for Healthcare Benefit cards.

What if I don’t get any good pictures of my baby?

Sometimes babies don’t cooperate with us or the fluid level in your uterus is too low for us to obtain good images. If this is the case we will bring you back for FREE at another time. We make no promises that the images you receive will be similar to those you might have seen elsewhere or even from our facility, or that we can always meet everyone's expectations. Every baby scans differently depending on its gestational age, position, amount of fluid, and mother's size. We promise to make every effort to obtain the best possible images of whatever parts of the baby that can be seen.

What is on my DVD?

Your DVD is the live moving portion of your session. It is not professional in the sense that nothing is cropped or edited. We are recording what baby is performing LIVE in the womb at that exact moment in time of your scheduled time slot. This will include 2D, 3D, and 4D. If you arrive late, you may not see that portion of your time slot recorded.

What are your office hours and how far in advance should I schedule my appointment?

We are open Monday-Saturday by appointment only. If you need a very specific date and time we tend to book about 2 weeks in advance. With that said we almost always have availability the same week and sometimes even the same day. It is usually just for random time slots that have not been filled yet.

What do I wear?

We recommend that you come with comfortable loose clothing or even leggings. You will NOT have to disrobe and this is ALWAYS an external ultrasound so only your belly will be exposed.

Can you tell me my baby’s weight?

Your baby’s weight can be determined by doing some measurements in addition to the regular scan. You can have this added to your package for an additional $10.

What is a Heartbeat Animal?

A Heartbeat Animal is a 9 inch stuffed animal the holds a recording device that we can use to record your baby’s heartbeat. These can be purchase in our office for $28 in addition to your ultrasound. You must pay for an ultrasound package in order to have your babies heartbeat recorded onto the device.
